Aphex has donated several of their professional audio products to be sold on H.E.A.R.’s eBay auction site, with the proceeds of the sales going to benefit H.E.A.R. (Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers) and its ongoing education programs promoting hearing awareness.

The online auction, sponsored by H.E.A.R. and hosted on the foundation’s eBay store, began in mid-October and continues through November. Items still available include two Aphex Model 454 HeadPod Headphone Amps. Proceeds of the sales of these products will help to raise needed funds for the non-profit organization.

Los Angeles, CA, November 2010….Califone, the leading provider of audio and multimedia solutions for education, has announced the implementation of Aphex’s acclaimed Aural Exciter and Optical Big Bottom technology into their PA-IRSYS Infrared Classroom Audio System.

Designed for delivering spoken word presentations to mid-sized and larger groups, the Califone PA-IRSYS is one of the company’s most popular classroom systems. The PA-IRSYS utilizes array loudspeaker components to focus the sound directly on the audience and away from walls and other reflective surfaces. As Califone President Roscoe Anthony observes, the Aphex Aural Exciter technology is ideally suited to the PA-IRSYS.

“In a classroom setting, speech intelligibility is of critical importance, and the Aural Exciter is legendary in its ability to enhance and improve intelligibility,” says Anthony. “Califone has a history of innovation in instructional audio technology, and the addition of Aphex’s Aural Exciter to one of our flagship products will take the PA-IRSYS to a whole new level. We’re looking forward to implementing Aphex technology into even more Califone products.”

“We’re truly excited to partner with Califone to bring Aphex’s Aural Exciter processing to their classroom audio systems,” added Rick McClendon, Aphex General Manager. “Aphex is well known within the professional audio and broadcast industries, and implementing our Aural Exciter technology within the classroom setting is a natural fit. It’s a great move for both companies, and only the beginning of a long and mutually successful relationship.”

Marin County, CA, October 2010…Award-winning producer/engineer Stephen Hart has added an Aphex Model 188 eight-channel mic pre to his room at the iconic “The Site ” Recording.

Hart, whose credits include recordings by artists ranging from Oscar Peterson, the Neville Brothers and Dave Brubeck to David Bowie, En Vogue and the White Stripes, is a longtime Bay Area producer who has also headed up the San Francisco chapter of the Recording Academy (Grammys), and is now a National Trustee. Previously he was chief engineer and lead mixer at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley and Director of Recording Services at Bay Area Sound Studios. The Site Recording boasts two control rooms, one with a vintage 72 input Neve 8078 with Ocean Way monitors, as well as an all digital mix and tracking room utilizing FOCAL monitors.

“The Aphex 188 has proven to be far more than I expected for a product at this price point,” says Hart. “I’ve used it on a wide range of source material, from drums and percussion to acoustic and electric guitar, strings, bass and vocals with mics ranging from AKG C12s and Coles ribbons to SM57s. In every case it’s given me clear, well-defined and uncolored sound with plenty of gain and headroom.”

Hart is also a fan of the 188′s remote capability. “I’m able to change levels, phase reverse and attenuate via computer without having to leave my listening position,” he says. “And when I do change levels while rolling, I get none of the annoying artifacts I’ve heard on other digitally remote controlled preamps. The software runs side by side with my DAW with no issues. I’ve only had the 188 for a month now, but it’s already become one of my main go-to front end boxes.”
