Barbra Streisand
is on tour for the first time in twelve years. She wanted to fully capture the
performances for a Showtime special as well as for a CD/DVD release. There was
only one preamplifier used to record all the tracks the Aphex 1788A.
KTVU-TV in Oakland California
installed 15 units of 2020MkIII's for all their external ingests (in addition
to the unit they already had on air) plus 20 units of the 230's for all microphones
in the plant. Their desire is to have as few people as possible in operations
so the equipment has to work automatically and flawlessly .and sound great,
too! There is only one company that can fulfill that goal and you represent it!!
Westwood One is the largest syndicator of radio programming
in the US. They bought and installed 15 of the 230's for all their studios in Culver
City.
Renowned radio personality, Rick Dees,
returned to the airwaves of Los Angeles. His first day included interviews with
his close friend Jack Nicholson. He could have bought any equipment he wanted.
He actually replaced a $2500 preamp with our model 230. After the first show the
engineers called up begging for another unit his 'sidekick,' Patti "Longlegs"
Lopez, was so much less present than Rick that people thought there was something
wrong.
The New York studio for Globo TV installed a 230 for
their commentator at the US Open. Their home office in Brazil was so amazed at the
increase in sound quality they had to call NY and ask how they were able to get
such great sound.
The 230 was installed on the referee's mic for SMU (Southern
Methodist University in Texas). Now the ref's voice is clean, consistent and
intelligible we couldn't do anything about his eyesight.
The Houston Rodeo bought another
four 1788A's. This is the largest indoor show in the world and some of the world's
top acts perform there. The Rodeo decided to purchase more after a number of artists
reported how much the audio had improved after the installation of the 1788A's
last year. And they will be purchasing 230's for their main announcers. Yee Ha!
Al Jazeera TV purchased a
1788A. What is notable is that it was sold by B&H Photo in NY, owned and operated
by Chasidic Jews. Good business can transcend religion!
The 230 was awarded "Best
of Show" at the Portable Media and Podcast Show. People
from all over the world came to this show and were completely amazed by the quality
they were able to achieve on their own voices. Broadcast Supply Worldwide
has put a lot of resources into this growing market and put the 230 and the award
graphic on their Podcast page. They cannot keep units in stock.
Marvin Caesar was the guest on a
professional audio Podcast on October 13. (www.audionowcast.com)
He brought 4 of the 230s with him for the show. The first thing that the other
panelists talked about was how great they sounded. The host of the show is the
west coast distributor of API and the show was done at a demo studio filled with
expensive gear. The mix engineer said that he had nothing to do as each input
was clean and level. The gates worked so perfectly that he did not have to go
into the files and edit out leakage. You should listen to the Podcast to get an
idea of how great the units are, and you will also get a wonderful history of
Aphex.
The AES Show was a smashing success
for Aphex. We formally introduced the Anaconda and the direct control of the 1788A
through ProTools. People were extremely impressed with the power, simplicity and
ease of use of the Anaconda. And the price totally floored them. It won the PAR
Excellence Award from Pro Audio Review. Bill Evans, the
editor of FOH Magazine, said that he wants to do a review, but that it
is really unfair to all other snakes as we have, by far, the best mic preamp.
That is the point!! The Anaconda should be in production by the end of year. We
have sample units that we are getting out to shows and for review.
We know that there are other stories out there.
We just need to hear them from you ! Send your stories and pictures to sales@aphex.com
